The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation (SRVEF) is proud to introduce Imagineering, a beyond school enrichment program for SRVUSD students in grades 4 to 8. The goal of Imagineering is to spark student interest in choosing STEM classes in middle and high school with the ultimate goal of identifying more STEM majors who will ultimately become highly sought after talent in the US corporate workplace.

The program consists of four (4) themes, each of which is taught in four (4) one-hour classes. The four themes are: Biotechnology, Net Logo Coding, 3D Printing and Robotics. These courses are designed to provide a serious, but enjoyable, science experience to supplement the science exposure elementary and middle school students receive at school. Currently these classes are targeted for beginners, but as more children cycle through the program, there will be level 2 and 3 classes offered in these content areas as well.

The curriculum for each theme is developed by a master teacher, who also teaches the class. Each class is supported by student mentors, middle and high school students who are knowledgeable in the content and skills involved in the program. Mentors are provided in a 4:1 ratio, with a mentor at each table group to provide individualized instruction. Imagineering is a hands-on program with students learning practical application within each of the themes.

3D Printing is the process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital model. Students learn how to make their own digital models using Tinkercad, a free-online resource, and convert them in to three-dimensional solid objects they can take home. Students also learn the value of familiarizing themselves with this skill, as Scientists have been able to use 3D printing for biotechnology, implant and medical devices, architecture prototypes, and even for space use. Once students get the foundation for making their own digital models they are then able to print their models on a Makerbot or a Cubify 3D printer. Not only do students learn the importance behind having this type of technology readily available, but they also learn about the practical applications for its use.

When registering for this class, understand you are registering for all four one hour classes.
